About Cattle Train

Cattle Train is Queensland’s largest dedicated long and short haul rail service specialising in the transport of live cattle for processing and export.

Cattle Train delivers regular, reliable and responsive cattle rail transport services for Queensland’s North West, Central West and South West regions.

Our service can transport up to 1000 cattle per trip along each of our rail network routes ensuring that stock arrives in the best condition possible, including regular inspections while being transported.

Operated by WATCO East-West, Cattle Train focusses on working with graziers, farmers, processors and partners with trucking companies to provide a more cost effective and reliable supply chain service to market.

The expertise and capability of Watco Australia to establish and deliver cost efficient rail freight services, combined with the relative local industry expertise and capability of East West Road & Rail to plan and manage complex freight supply chain services, provides Queensland freight customers a new alternative in delivering innovative and cost-effective rail freight and terminal services.

Corporate Overview

Cattle Train is part of the WATCO Group of companies that operates dedicated commercial train services across more than 200 profit centres in the United States and Australia and employs more than 4,600 team members.

Cattle Train is owned by Watco East West is jointly owned by Watco Australia (part of Watco Companies LLC) and East West Road & Rail (part of Hood Group of Companies) and was formed in 2019 to pursue livestock and regional container rail freight opportunities in Queensland.

Watco East West provides comprehensive rail freight logistics services including terminal operations, train operations, train planning and scheduling, rollingstock maintenance services, rail safety management and product tracing and inventory control.

Watco East West provides services on the East Coast of Australia, currently servicing Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads in the provision of livestock rail freight services in the South West Region to Processors based in and around Brisbane.

In 2020, Watco East West won the right to operate the South-West Cattle Transport Service and in 2022 has now added the North and Central West Cattle Transport Services on behalf of Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The company has also delivered record increases in containerized rail transport on behalf of the Western Australian Government through operating 3 daily train services between Forrestfield Intermodal Terminal and North Quay Rail Terminal in the Perth region, and is currently planning an expansion of this service.
